Joy in the World
The Month for Joyful Dedication
July 20- August 28
Staying true to the path, staying aware of others on the path,
we align and realign with the values we honor and the joys the days bring.
Our Guide for this month is Prayer:
I am contained in my love amor,
floating in a sea
of curves and angles.
The rhythm of the sea
is uneven,
still, I stay steady.
My hands rely on each other
for support,
and my fingers point
to my higher spirit.
This is how I stay centered.
When I feel turbulence,
I close my eyes
and see myself as you see me now.
If you want to share my center,
simply see your face in mine.
Prayer and love are true allies who keep us dedicated to Joy and to the Path of Joy. As the poem says, they also keep us centered.
Our Joyful Practice for this month:
Honor all the roads, by-ways, rest stops, meanders, freeways, hidden pathways that our lives have taken.
Revisit them to mine the joy that may have seemed hidden but was always, always there.
Hafiz says: “Join me in the pure atmosphere of gratitude for life.”
Joyful Dedication revels in that pure atmosphere, and reveals our aliveness, our innate goodness, our reverence for life, in all its abundance:
the summer drumbeat of the earth
the baby fawn prancing by
visitations of raccoons hungry for cat food
evening music under the stars
all the swimmers in the cool waters
perfectly ripe peaches
neighbors on the porch swing watching the world go by
Seeing, tasting, hearing joy, living in joy, affirming its presence, strengthens us and strengthens joy itself.
