The Month for Joyful Awareness

Jumping for Joy
Waking up this morning, I see the blue sky
I join my hands in thanks for the many wonders of life,
for having twenty-four brand new hours.
The sun is rising on the forest
and so is my awareness.

This is the richest time to welcome joyful aliveness in the Northern Hemisphere.
Especially while taking a drive through the extravagant evidence of an Earth palpably alive and pulsing warmth, responding to Her ages-long love affair with the springtime Sun.
A neighbor has planted daffodils in a giant heart shape on the embankment by the railroad track. They lift their brave heads and sing with the blowing wind.
The forsythia bush forgets and forgives the weeks of snow, graciously recognizing that this is the moment to celebrate with bright color and proof of renewal.
All the trees seem to blush as the rising life juices palpably beg for the embrace of air and light, willingly welcoming whatever comes. Tender leaves open to clothe the trees’ elegant nakedness, inviting the questing birds: build your nest here!
A protective hawk surveys the newly waking spring territory, perched high on the branch. Also singing!
And “the racing lambs have fair their fling,” as Gerard Manley Hopkins describes the tumult of new birth in this holy time.
Truly there is music in the air.
Our only task during this month of glories is to build an inner treasure house of joyful events, sights, thoughts, prayers. And celebrate. Sing, sing, sing.
Joy in the World.
And in me.
