At long last

After years of compiling ancient and modern stories and images of the Feminine Divine Ones, of studying and pondering Her stories and appearances, of asking for and receiving encouragement, of seeking ways to bring this many-years assignment to fruition, a means of co-creative, open production has finally appeared.

A Wiki for the Goddess

What, you may ask, is a wiki?

When you hear the word ‘wiki’, you most likely think immediately of Wikipedia, the famous online encyclopedia. More recently, WikiLeaks, the source of most leaked government secrets in recent years, has been grabbing headlines. The important part of wikis—what makes them different from any other type of website—is collaborative editing by the users. Think about that for a moment: the ability for the users of a wiki to collaboratively edit it. If you can read it, you can edit it. It seems simple at first, yet profoundly powerful in practice.

The wiki format makes it possible for many people to contribute to this endeavor, and has this advantage. That is, in the process of recognizing, and even re-creating the palpable presence of a feminine face of divinity, plus a “Bible” for and about Her, we re-create ourselves in Her image. We can thus each become a living goddess bible.

Here’s How It Happens

One of our times’ foremost spiritual teachers, Richard Rohr, tells us,
“Your image of God creates you.”
In fact he is so sure of the importance of this statement that in his book, Yes, And, he repeats it three times.
“Your image of God creates you.”
“Your image of God creates you.”
“Your image of God creates you.”

One of Oregon’s foremost artists, Denise Kester, tells us,
“What you create, creates you.”

Other wise ones have said, “The self isn’t something you find, the self is something you create.”

Re-creating Ourselves in Her Image

Most of us over the years of our lives have “worked on ourselves.” We desire to be clearer, more thoughtful, more loving, more compassionate, more useful.

Joining in a modern-day quest for powerful words, beautiful music, breathtaking images in order to celebrate a glorious female god just might help us become those attributes we wish to embody.

I believe she is present in women’s lives, as we live them, and by centering on her aliveness, we can begin to express her fully and effectively. Our work is to seek her, discover her, invite her, celebrate her and know her to be unfailingly present and cherishing in every season of our lives. And to embody and live that truth for our daughters’ sakes – and sons, husbands, brothers, lovers, too. Most important, to tell the story of her aliveness in and around us everywhere, through all the seasons of life. Meditate, study, ponder, and then begin to create hymns, laments, prayers, praise songs, art, designs, and stories, stories, stories.

In the Works

Here are some of the beginning categories and ideas to consider about the Goddess. These and others will soon be organized into the initial structure of the book. We will also soon publish instructions for contributing your writings to the wiki, which will be called A Goddess Bible, consisting, as many scriptures do, of many smaller books.

Your Spiritual DNA: What traditions do you identify with? And who are the female beings of that tradition? The Lady Who Dwells Within.

A Goddess Heritage: A listing of names and stories of the female creators, sustainers, and destroyers.

A Book of the Companion: The Lady who walks beside you.
It’s helpful to consider a pattern of Her life in our lives. Perhaps this one will inspire you to remember, or make up, a truth about how she revealed herself through these “Nine Seasons: Stages of a Woman’s Life.”

Ground Rules

  • It will never be finished, or complete.
  • It is an open-ended book.
  • It will never be the foundation for a religion, or create any reason for one person to hate another.
  • It is written to celebrate The Lady, and it cannot be anti-male.
  • Stories can include aspects of Her presence in all things, her myriad and pleasurable relationships with the Masculine God — as His mother, lover, sister, spouse, daughter, muse — as well as tales about her workings when she seems to be alone.
  • Every person and every being carries a part of Her story.
  • No one who wants to be included can be left out.

Questions to ask

What might a Great Goddess have to say today to modern women and their daughters? Men, too, of course.

What does she want; how does she appear?

What is her role in human life, in planetary life, now in this moment?

What would we like her to be?

What can we do that will enhance her?
