Joyful Acceptance and Joyful Acknowledgement
May 1 to June 9, 2026
This month we employ a four-stepped dance, a kind of contra-dance of Joy. Based on our previous month’s practice of becoming ever more aware of joy in all the elements, we begin this dance by opening our senses to the joy we are learning to embrace fully.
Step One: Partner Up! Look for a partner in the world around you:
Seeing, Hearing, Smelling, Tasting, Touching,
Step Two: Come Together
Bow to the other
Whatever catches your senses, or your heart or mind, feel it completely; embrace it, imbibe it, drink it in, bathe in it, cuddle in it. This is enriched Acceptance.
Step Three: Whirl Around Together
Acknowledge your partner
with flavor and fervor. The great Teacher, Meister Eckhart reminds us that “Thank you” is a perfect prayer. Make it as passionate as decency allows.
Step Four: Listen for the Music
Perhaps your partner will Accept your Acknowledgment, fully drinking it in, and then Acknowledge such Acceptance. The dance begins again, you take in the Acknowledgement, drink it until you’re truly full (Acceptance), then Acknowledge it. Thus, Joy grows and keeps on growing.
Joy in the World.
